Surrounded by the Anti-Atlas Mountains in western Morocco, Tiznit is a little-visited town that offers a glimpse into traditional Moroccan life. Founded in 1881 by Sultan Hassan I, it has long been renowned as a centre for silver handicrafts, with skilled artisans crafting everything from intricately designed jewellery to beautifully inlaid daggers.

Today, Tiznit remains encircled by its original fortified walls and is a wonderful place to soak up the comings and goings of an authentic Moroccan market town. It lies within easy reach of the outstanding birdwatching at Oued Massa Nature Reserve, as well as the golden sands of Plage Aglou.

In this article, discover 5 of the best places to stay in Tiznit to discover everything this off-the-beaten-path destination has to offer. It can also be visited as a day trip from Mirleft or Sidi Ifni, both of which offer some beautiful coastal hotels.
