For Moroccans, the hammam is a place to connect with friends, to find solace and reflection before Friday prayers and to catch up on all the latest news about who’s marrying who.
I truly believe the hammam experience is an essential part of Moroccan culture and a must-try activity for any visitor to Marrakech. There are both local neighbourhood hammams that the general public frequents, as well as private hammams found in many of the city's upscale hotels. They offer completely different experiences (you can learn more here), so I’d highly recommend you try both if time allows.
Compared to public hammams, those at Marrakech hotels offer a more luxurious, spa-like experience, with private treatment rooms and a tranquil atmosphere (there are no kids splashing around here!). While some are accessible to non-guests, it’s wise to choose a Marrakech hotel or riad with an in-house hammam if it’s something you want to do.
