Tips for finding a romantic hotel in Essaouira

With its laid-back bohemian vibe, stunning sunsets and abundance of enchanting accommodations, Essaouira is an idyllic destination for a couples getaway. When searching for a romantic hotel in Essaouira, there are several things to keep in mind to ensure the perfect escape

First, consider the location. Look for hotels situated in the heart of the medina if you want to be within walking distance of all the attractions. Alternatively, you can opt to stay along Essaouira’s beachfront for more of a seaside escape.

Next, decide if you want to stay in a classic hotel or a riad. Many riads (traditional Moroccan houses converted into boutique hotels) offer a uniquely romantic ambiance. You can expect elegant courtyards, ornate architecture and traditionally decorated rooms.

Be sure to read reviews from previous guests to get a sense of the overall experience and make sure it aligns with what you desire. You can even search for the word “romantic” to find reviews that mention it!

Amenities like rooftop terraces with ocean views, on-site hammams and spas, and candlelit dining are thoughtful touches that can enhance the romantic mood. I particularly love a room with a deep-soaking tub and a fireplace if I’m visiting Essaouira in the winter months.

Lastly, keep in mind that every hotel in Essaouira imposes a government-mandated tourist tax. This is to be paid directly to the property. This fee is in addition to the nightly room rate and is usually settled at check-in or check-out. This small charge applies to each individual, per night, except for children under the age of 12.
