Royal Mansour Marrakech

Best riad-style 5-star hotel in Marrakech

If you’re dreaming of staying in a traditional riad, but want the services and amenities of a 5-star hotel, you can experience both at the Royal Mansour in Marrakech. Designed by King Mohammed VI himself and brought to life by some of the country’s most skilled artisans, it’s one of the most luxurious hotels in Morocco.

Each of the 53 private riads is a work of art. They’re adorned with zellige mosaics, handwoven textiles and authentic Moroccan crafts. When staying here, you can expect the utmost privacy and comfort.

Tips for selecting a 5-star hotel in Marrakech

When selecting a 5-star hotel in Marrakech, there are several key factors to consider to ensure an unforgettable experience.

First, decide on the style of accommodation that best suits your needs, whether it’s a traditional riad, a spacious villa or a modern resort. Generally speaking, the 5-star resorts in the Marrakech Palmeraie will be larger and with more amenities than the luxury riads in the medina where space is at a premium.

Location is also crucial. If you’re planning to stay at a 5-star hotel in the Marrakech medina, it’s essential to think about access. Remember, the medina is pedestrian-only. You won’t be able to drive right up to the entrance to drop off your luggage.

If you’re driving yourself, there are several staffed parking areas located near the medina’s entrances. These offer better safety than leaving your rental car on the street.

After you make your reservation, your Marrakech accommodation will typically contact you with information about the nearest and safest parking options, as well as directions to reach the property on foot (you can also find this independently using Google Maps).

Top tip:

Most 5-star Marrakech hotels in the medina can arrange for someone to meet you at the nearest “bab” or parking area. Usually, they will bring a trolley for transporting your luggage. If you’re arriving independently (not with a hotel transfer), it’s a good idea to put the hotel’s WhatsApp contact number in your phone. That way, you can get in touch if you end up getting lost.

Almost all Marrakech hotels and riads provide an airport pickup service and I highly recommend taking advantage of this for a stress-free experience. Alternatively, you can book a secure, fixed-price Marrakech airport transfer with Welcome Pickups.

A driver will greet you at the airport with a sign displaying your name and they will communicate with someone from your hotel to meet you in the parking area. This makes the journey to your hotel much simpler than trying to find your way through the maze of streets on your own!

If you’re staying at a 5-star hotel in Marrakech with onsite parking, then the arrival process is much more straightforward.

Usually when planning a stay in Marrakech, I’d recommend considering the noise levels from nearby bars and clubs, as well as the sound that emanates from the medina’s many mosques. But because 5-star hotels in Marrakech usually have good soundproofing, this is less of an issue.

If you’re a light sleeper and are concerned about being awoken by the Fajr adhan (the dawn call to prayer), then I’d recommend bringing earplugs, just in case.

Finally, keep in mind that every hotel in Marrakech (5-star or otherwise) is obligated to collect a government-mandated tourist tax. This tax needs to be paid directly to the hotel. Usually, it’s not included in your booking rate (although it is generally displayed below the booking rates to prevent any surprise charges).
