9 Best Marrakech Hotels with Hammams for a Pampering Stay

Looking for the best Marrakech hotels with hammams? Discover 9 incredible places to stay in the “Red City” where you can experience this traditional Moroccan bathing ritual in style.

The hammam is a centuries-old tradition deeply ingrained in Moroccan culture and is far more than just a simple bathing ritual. In my opinion, it is a transformative experience that nourishes both the body and the soul.

For Moroccans, the hammam is a place to connect with friends, to reflect before Friday prayers and to catch up on all the latest news about who’s marrying who.

Not only is the hammam an essential part of Moroccan culture but a must-try experience for any visitor to Marrakech. There are both local neighbourhood hammams and private hammams found in many of the city’s upscale hotels.

They offer completely different experiences (you can learn more here), so I’d highly recommend you try both if time allows.

Compared to public hammams, those at Marrakech hotels offer a more luxurious, spa-like experience. They come with private treatment rooms and have a tranquil atmosphere (there are no kids splashing around here!).

While some are accessible to non-guests, it’s wise to choose a Marrakech hotel or riad with an in-house hammam if it’s something you want to do. This means that at the end of your session, you can easily wander back to your suite fully robed. No need to disrupt your state of bliss by being launched back into the chaos of the medina.

In this article, I’ll highlight 9 of the best Marrakech hotels with hammams, including indulgent 5-star experiences and more affordable riad options.

What can I expect at a hotel hammam in Morocco?

For a detailed explanation of the difference between a local neighbourhood hammam and a luxury hotel spa, check out my article What to Expect at a Moroccan Hammam. For a brief breakdown, keep reading below!

At Marrakech hotel spas, the hammam ritual is usually a multi-step process that leaves the body feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and relaxed. First, you’ll lie down on a heated slab in a humid room, allowing your pores to open up.

Attendants will then gently slosh warm water infused with aromatic oils and essences all over your body, preparing it for the deep cleansing to come.

Next, a thick, black olive oil-based soap is applied. Despite its lack of lather, works to thoroughly purge dirt and impurities from the skin. After letting the soap soak in for about 15 minutes, you’ll be vigorously scrubbed down with a loofah-like kessa glove. This is designed to remove layers of dead skin and leave you feeling silky smooth.

To cap off the experience, a nourishing natural clay called ghassoul, harvested from the nearby Atlas Mountains, is lathered all over the body. This is followed by a final rinse.

The end result is skin that is baby-soft and glowing – you will never feel cleaner in your life! Many choose to extend the pampering by opting for a soothing massage following the hammam ritual.
