Tips for finding the best luxury hotel in Tangier

When searching for a luxury hotel in Tangier, there are several things to consider to ensure you find the perfect accommodation for you.

First, consider the location of the hotel. Is it situated in the historic medina and within walking distance of most attractions? Or will you need to rely on taxis for getting around? Many of Tangier’s best luxury hotels are situated outside the medina, affording them magnificent views across the coastline and the Strait of Gibraltar.

Whether you prefer the convenience of walkability or sweeping panoramas is a highly personal decision and one that only you can make. If you’re not staying within the medina, factor in the costs of taxis to get there and back or check if the hotel offers a complimentary shuttle service.

Also, pay attention to amenities. The best luxury hotels in Tangier will offer on-site spas, fitness centres and swimming pools, as well as high-end dining options (sometimes multiple restaurants).

Read reviews from past guests to get a sense of the quality of service, cleanliness and the overall experience of staying at the property. Reviews offer a wealth of information not available on the hotel website.

It’s also worth keeping in mind that all Tangier hotels charge a government-mandated tourist tax on top of the nightly room rate. This small amount is charged on a per person, per night basis and is usually collected at the end of your stay. Most hotels are transparent about this tax in their advertised rates but it still comes as a surprise to many tourists.
