Riad Charme d’Orient
Best adults-only Marrakech riad in the medina
For over a decade, owners Laurence and Alain have poured their hearts into creating this adults-only Marrakech riad. It really is a haven for travellers seeking a kid-free hotel in the medina.
Riad Charme d’Orient is located in the enchanting Kasbah quarter. It’s rapidly becoming one of the most sought-after areas to stay in Marrakech.
The building has been lovingly restored to embody the essence of Arab-Andalusian architecture. There’s a harmonious ambiance that envelops you from the moment you step inside.
As is traditional with Moroccan riads, the property centres around an open-air courtyard, complete with a plunge pool.
Each of the seven individually decorated rooms is a masterpiece of Moroccan craftsmanship. Plus, there’s air-conditioning – a modern perk for Marrakech’s scorching summer heat.
Aside from the sun-drenched rooftop terrace (which offers incredible views across the city), there are plenty of cosy nooks where you can curl up with a good book. The traditional hammam is an added bonus!

Tips for selecting an adults-only hotel in Marrakech
Finding an adults-only hotel or riad in Marrakech isn’t always as simple as selecting a “no kids” filter. Most hotel platforms don’t have the option to filter results to only show adults-only hotels in Marrakech. So you often have to dig a little deeper to find them.
That being said, many hotels, resorts and riads reveal their “no children” policy quite quickly in their description. They’ll also detail any age restrictions they might have (some allow children aged 12 and above).
At some properties, the bedding configurations are indicative of the clientele they are serving, with only double or twin rooms available.
If you’re planning to stay at adults-only hotels or riads in the Marrakech medina, keep in mind that the area is pedestrian-only. This means you won’t be able to drive right up to the entrance to drop off your bags.
Top tip:
If you’re self-driving, there are a number of parking lots (with attendants) close to the medina’s entrances. These offer a safer option than parking your rental car on the street.
Once you’ve made a booking at adults-only hotels and riads in Marrakech, the staff will usually each out. This is to inform you about any services and the most convenient parking options. Usually, they can arrange for someone to meet you at the taxi drop-off point and give you a WhatsApp number to help with the meet-up.
If you’re flying into Marrakech Menara Airport and taking a taxi independently, you can easily check Google Maps to see which gate (“bab”) is closest to your accommodation. Welcome Pickups is a reliable and trustworthy option for booking airport transfers if you don’t want to negotiate a taxi on arrival in Marrakech.
Google Maps will also show you the fastest way to walk from the edge of the medina to your adults-only hotel or riad in Marrakech. How easy this is will depend on your navigation skills and how much luggage you have!
Top tip:
For a stress-free alternative, most riads and hotels in Marrakech provide airport pickup services and I highly recommend taking advantage of these.
With a hotel-organised transfer, a driver will greet you at the airport with a sign displaying your name. Plus, they will communicate with someone from the riad to meet you in the parking area, often with a luggage trolley to assist you.
This makes the journey to your hotel much simpler than trying to find your way through the maze of streets on your own!
When selecting adults-only hotels and riads in Marrakech, remember to consider the noise from nearby bars or clubs. A quick look on Google Maps can help you find out if there are any close to your accommodation.
As a general tip, it’s best to steer clear of staying too near Djemaa el-Fnaa. It tends to be the liveliest and loudest area in the Marrakech medina.
Within the medina, you’ll hear the call to prayer ringing out across the city multiple times a day. The likelihood of being awakened by the Fajr adhan (the dawn call to prayer) really hinges on your hotel’s soundproofing. Typically, the more upscale the accommodation, the better the noise insulation.
Top tip:
No matter where you decide to stay in the Marrakech medina, I recommend packing some earplugs, especially if you are a light sleeper.
If you don’t want to stay near a mosque, then I’d suggest looking for accommodation outside the medina. Here, you can find several large, adults-only Marrakech resorts, such as Be Live Collection or Hotel Riu Tikida Garden.
